At our KOA campground, located here in Bangor/Holden area, we understand the importance of creating unforgettable experiences for families in the great outdoors. Camping provides the perfect opportunity to bond, explore, and create lasting memories together. Whether you're seasoned campers or embarking on your first camping trip, we have created a list of the top 10 family-friendly activities to enjoy during your stay at our campground, outside of the activities we offer throughout the week here. From nature walks to marshmallow roasts, there is something for everyone to love!
1. Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Embark on a scavenger hunt through the campground and surrounding trails. Create a list of items for your children to find, such as pinecones, wildflowers, or animal tracks. This is a fun way to explore nature while teaching kids about the environment.
2. Campfire Stories + Songs:
Gather around the campfire in the evening for a classic tradition. Share stories, sing songs, and roast marshmallows for s'mores. It is a magical way to bond as a family and with other camping families as well and ultimately create cherished memories under the stars.
3. Outdoor Movie Night:
Set up a makeshift outdoor theater with a portable projector and screen. Choose a family-friendly movie and enjoy a cozy movie night under the night sky + don't forget the popcorn and blankets.
4. Hiking + Nature Trails:
Here at the Bangor Holden KOA we have several trails on the property to explore as well as many others right outside of the park. So lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails for a family adventure. Explore the natural beauty of the campground and discover all our hidden treasures along the way.
5. Fishing Excursion:
Cast your lines in our nearby ponds and rivers for a relaxing fishing excursion. There are many fantastic fishing spots located right near the campground. Teach your kids the basics of fishing and enjoy quality time together by the water. Who knows, you might even reel in a big catch!
6. Bike Rides + Nature Bike Trails:
Bring along your bicycles and explore our family-friendly bike trails. Wind through forested paths, meadows, and lakeside routes while soaking in the beauty of the nature that is offered here in the state of Maine. It is a great way to stay active and explore the campground at your own pace.
7. Outdoor Games + Sports:
Pack your favorite outdoor games and sports equipment for some friendly competition. Play a game of volleyball, soccer, or horseshoes at our designated recreation areas. It is a great way to burn off energy and enjoy quality family time outdoors.
8. Nature Crafts + DIY Projects:
Here at the KOA we offer weekly crafts for both kids and adults. Collect natural materials such as leaves, sticks, and rocks to create works of art or handmade souvenirs. It is a fun and education activity that allows kids to express their creativity while connection with nature.
9. Stargazing + Constellation Spotting:
Venture outside after dark for a mesmerizing stargazing season. Spread out a blanket and gaze up at the night sky to spot constellations, shooting stars, and plants. And here in Maine if you are lucky, you might be able to see the Northern Lights. Use a stargazing app to learn about the celestial wonders above and spark curiosity in astronomy.
