Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is the perfect way to explore the nature around Las Vegas. The canyon is Nevada's first conservation area and is ideal for avid hikers and climbers. There are 19 hiking routes — some are more technical, while others are perfect for the whole family.
One of the most popular tracks is the Ice Box Canyon, which winds past seasonal waterfalls and shady spots. Admire the beautiful red boulders and unique desert landscapes of the area.
Mt. Charleston is another site to enjoy great Las Vegas outdoor activities. The area is a great region to get a reprieve from the heat. Hike through aspen, bristlecone and ponderosa pine trees and past seasonal waterfalls. Cathedral Rock at Mt. Charleston offers picturesque mountain views.
Wintertime is also a great time to visit! You can ski and snowboard at Lee Canyon or learn to snowshoe.
Valley of Fire State Park transports you to a landscape that looks out of this world. The park is one of the largest and oldest in the state. Along the trails, find 2,000-year-old petroglyphs, petrified trees and fire-red sandstone. The Fire Wave Trail takes you to sites of stunning rock formations in different hues of orange, pink, red and yellow.
Bike, walk, paddleboard or kayak at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Lake Mead rents various non-motorized boats, allowing you to paddle past exceptional views and magnificent natural scenery.
The area trails link Lake Mead with Hoover Dam, Boulder City and various parts of the Las Vegas Valley.
Lake Las Vegas consists of 320 acres of water and is surrounded by desert mountains, making it an outdoor enthusiast's paradise.
