The Kankakee South KOA offers a quiet get-away-from-it-all retreat that is just an hour south of Chicago and minutes from Route 66, the Mother Road.

Rest, Relax, & Recharge - Quiet Camping in the Heart of the Midwest

Kankakee South KOA Holiday is the perfect place to get away and spend quality time with family and friends or relaxing by yourself, whether you want to drop in and stay a night or two or 10. Our unique location provides the perfect balance of peace and quiet, while still being close to the fun and adventure to be had on day trips to Chicago and along Historic Route 66. We are a quiet, peaceful campground that prides itself on delivering outstanding guest service. Our park is just one hour south of downtown Chicago - close enough for all the action, far away enough to relax in quiet comfort. We are your best first stop while you get your kicks on Route 66 - conveniently located away from tollways and traffic congestion and just minutes from the small towns lining the fabled route.

Our property offers a wide variety of options to perfectly cater to all your camping needs and preferences:

  • RV Camping Sites: Catering to RVers of all kinds, we offer a range of site options from simple 30amp water- and electric-only Pull-Thrus to big rig-friendly 50amp Deluxe Patio Pull-Thru and Paw Pen sites with full hookups. Camping with a friend? Check out our Buddy Site where you and a friend can camp awning-to-awning with a spacious yard to spread out and make memories around the shared fire pit.
  • Lodging: If you love the idea of camping but hate to leave all your creature comforts behind, our Deluxe and Camping Cabins are perfect for those who want a comfortable camping shelter. Our Camping Cabin gives you the best of both worlds. This rustic log cabin doesn't have a bathroom, but it does include a roof over your head and a cozy bed where you can rest after a day of adventure. The Deluxe Cabins are excellent for glamping, equipped with a full bath and kitchen. All accommodations are climate-controlled and include bed and bath linens, propane grills, fire pits, TVs, and refrigerators.
  • Tent Sites: The campground's tent sites are open and spacious, allowing campers to enjoy a more traditional camping experience in their own space. Fall asleep under the stars and truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of your life. We offer sites with and without water and electric hookups. To introduce your kids to the joys of camping, there's no better place than Kankakee South KOA Holiday. Tent camping is the more traditional way to escape into the great outdoors, and our campground has two excellent tent camping experiences to choose from. For those looking to rough it, our primitive Tent Sites are nestled among the towering trees with a pad of grass you can call your own during your time with us. We also offer water and electric Tent Sites, with hookups for those still needing a few of the conveniences of modern life.
  • All of our Cabins, RV, and Tent Sites are pet friendly! You can bring your beloved furry family members with you during your relaxing trip away from the city.

Kankakee South KOA Holiday is consistently recognized among its peers, receiving KOA's World-Class Guest Service Award - an award determined solely by our guests - year after year. Our staff works hard going above and beyond to ensure that every guest has the best experience we can deliver. Whether you are staying in an RV, cabin or a tent, you can enjoy the many amenities available for guests around the campground. With a well-maintained property, we ensure you and your family can focus on recharging safely and peacefully.

When you camp with us, you can enjoy features like:

  • Trash Panda Kitchen: Our on-site food service features Hunt Brothers Pizza & Wings, Hershey's Ice Cream, and more. Your food cravings are just a text message away!
  • Free delivery: You're here to relax; we're here to work. Firewood, ice, food orders, and even propane tank refills can be brought right to your site. Just shoot us a text and we'll take it from here! We'll even pick up your garbage bags.
  • Excellent WiFi
  • KampK9®: Kankakee South KOA Holiday is pet-friendly. Our off-leash pet playground provides plenty of room to play and exercise for our four-legged campers. Be sure to snag a bag of complimentary dog treats on arrival!
  • Paw Pen Sites: Our most popular sites! Our Paw Pens feature a concrete patio, propane grill, patio furniture, and pet waste station all within a spacious, completely fenced-in yard that allows you to camp with your dogs, not next to them. Your furry friends (or toddlers!) can roam free across the whole site without the fuss of tie-outs or kennels.
  • Game Room, Gaga Ball, and Rustic Playground: Kids love running around our spacious playground and making new friends in the Gaga Ball pit.
  • Gem Mining Experience: Kids and adults alike will love sifting for gems at Kankakee South KOA Mining Company, the campground's mining sluice.
  • Fully stocked General Store with essentials and local favorites
  • Pool: Taking a dip in the pool is a perfect activity when the weather is warm. A little cool out but the kids are antsy? No worries, our pool is heated! (Open Memorial Day - Labor Day)
  • Planned weekend activities: Our staff plans various family-friendly activities like Wagon Rides, Scavenger Hunts, and Foam Parties throughout the season so campers can try new things while having fun together. (Memorial Day - Labor Day)
  • RV clubs and rallies: You can host RV clubs and rallies on the campground. Plenty of RV Sites are available for campers to meet and have fun.

We invite you to share the experience of memories created around a campfire; memories that will endure when you recall the special times spent together as a family while camping. We would love to help make this happen for you. Come camp with us!

Rate Field - Home of the Chicago White Sox

Rate Field is situated just to the west of the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago's Armour Squiare neighborhood, adjacent to the more famous neighborhood of Bridgeport. The stadium was built directly across 35th Street from the original Comiskey Park, which was demolished to make room for a parking lot for the new venue. The location of Old Comiskey's home plate is represented by a marble plaque on the sidewalk next to Rate Field, with the foul lines painted in the parking lot. The spectator ramp across 35th Street is designed in such a way (partly curved, partly straight but angling east-northeast) that it echoes the contour of the old first-base grandstand.
