The Hinton Historical Museum is filled to the brim with all types of antiquities and collections, from antique cars to barbed wire to telephones and so much more. Boasting Oklahoma's largest buggy collection and 2nd largest barbed wire ( devil's rope ) collection, one can spend plenty of leisure time browsing these collections... And then there is more... a nice collection of antique cars dating back to Model T's, antique bicycles, household appliances, farm equipment, telephones... I could go on and on.... One of the other aspects that make this such a great visit is the curator, Art Peters. Mr. Peters is like a book of knowledge about the historic California Road. It was a trail that settlers used to make their way across the prairies. The U.S. Cavalry also used this road extensively in their missions. Mr Peters has researched enormous amounts of history, discovered abandoned campsites and towns along the route across Oklahoma. He has collected artifacts long buried at these places and put together an extensive collection at the museum. He has written 2 books, one about the California Road and the other about the mounds of Caddo County which were used as landmarks by travelers. Stop in for a very informative visit. Open Monday Through Saturday... 10 am until 4pm.

The man who purchased the barn hired Amish carpenters from Shipshewana, Indiana to restore the barn as close to its original appearance.

This museum is well worth the visit. It will take you back to what was once the old days. A lot of these items on display are from many surrounding towns here in Oklahoma, and they have a lot outside to see also. A jail, a little cabin that shows how they used to live, a Bank, a Church and lots more to see.
The Governor Seay Mansion is a real treat, as the rooms are all set up as they lived in at the time they stayed there. This is a must if you like old items from the past.
