Cold Weather Camping Tipsfrom the Experts at KOADuring cold weather always camp with others. Let family or friends know where you're going and when you plan to return. Remember to layer your clothing so you can adjust based on your activity, also wearing dark colors will attract warmth from the sun. For the best insulation wear wool and synthetic materials rather than cotton. Cotton won't keep you warm once it gets wet and takes a long time to dry out. Also remember to pack plenty of socks so you will always have a dry pair. Wear a hat and scarf even when you go to bed. The head and neck area allow body heat to escape. Keep a bottle of warm water in the foot of your sleeping bag at night. This will help keep your feet warm. It's a good idea to sleep with your head covered but outside your sleeping bag. Moisture from your breath will wet your sleeping bag and reduce its insulating ability. Remember to keep hydrated during your camping trip. It is important to replace water lost from exertion and from the cold air. Cocoa, decaffeinated coffee or tea and instant breakfast drinks are great choices. Use plastic cookware and utensils along with insulated mugs to keep food warm. Bring along fire starters to make the trip a little smoother and more efficient. Before going to bed, warm up by eating a candy bar, drinking a hot beverage or standing by the fire. Your sleeping bag will keep you warm, but it can't make you warm. Tent Camping
