Flagstaff KOAMeet Your Hosts![]() Jerry and Corky Sanders love the tall ponderosa pines and the stunning mountainous terrain that rises up like an oasis around them at their Flagstaff KOA. It serves as a perfect hub for exploring the sights of Northern Arizona. The couple has managed the campground since 1974, after starting as part-timers when they first moved to Flagstaff after college graduation. They were attracted to the marvelous skiing in the area, and once considered opening a YMCA. But the timing wasn't favorable, and they soon found they'd have to move every few years, so they opted instead for the campground lifestyle. They've enjoyed it ever since, continuing to upgrade and make improvements at the campground over the years. Their favorite part of the KOA business is the people, Jerry noted. "We thrive on people," he said. "We really do." He commended the caring employees who welcome their campers as guests and help create a fun environment during their stay. "We put a smile on your face when you walk in the door," he added. The campground is located at 7,000 feet, and the Cococino National Forest surrounds the landscape, where you'll find wild turkey, deer and other wildlife, he said. There are hiking trails that start right from the campsites. The Grand Canyon and Sedona are nearby. The Flagstaff KOA offers ice cream socials and a camp kitchen cooking up a full-service breakfast. You'll also enjoy mountain biking, fishing, water skiing and exploring nearby craters in the mountains. The couple has enjoyed skiing in the winter and taking their boat on Lake Powell. In previous years they've enjoyed the outdoors, backpacking, running the Colorado River through the Canyon, and traveling. Come meet Jerry and Corky Sanders . |
