Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA

Local Area Day Trips

Petrified Forest National Park/Painted Desert

Discover a panoramic medley of painted desert, petrified forest and prehistoric treasures. Plan to spend an entire day roaming, exploring and learning in this geologic wonder. Enjoy a scenic 28-mile drive through the park and visit the lookout points for a multi-angled view of the diverse terrain.

Historic Route 66

In the 1930s, 40s and 50s, Route 66 was also known “The Mother Road” and “The Main Street of America.” This narrow strip of asphalt was a symbol of hope for farmers fleeing the dust bowl and soldiers starting a new life after World War II. It was also a symbol of adventure for travelers answering the call of the west. Route 66 goes through downtown Holbrook, where period restaurants, motels, and shops still offer the weary traveler old west friendliness.

Meteor Crater

Visit the best preserved meteoric crater on earth. Measuring 4,150 feet from rim to rim, three miles in circumference and 570 feet deep, this lunar-like landscape site, created 49,000 years ago, is used to train United States astronauts.

Hubbell Trading Post

Visit the oldest, continually active post (now a National Historic Site) on the Navajo Reservation, where the past blends with the inter-culture of the present. A visitor’s center, tours and craft demonstrations illustrate the diverse legacy of early artisans and traders.

Navajo and Hopi Indian Reservations

Old Oraibi - Located on the Third Mesa, this quaint village is believed to be the oldest, continuously inhabited settlement in North America, dating back prior to 1200 A.D. View the remains of a ghostly, romantic, ruined mission church dating back to 1629. Hopi Mesas - Situated in the heart of the massive Navajo reservation, the Hopi land contains several unique villages situated within three mesas. Today life is lived here in the same places and in nearly the same fashion as Hopi ancestors from centuries ago.
