Jacksonville North / St. Marys KOAMeet Your Hosts![]() After 26 years of trying to get rid of pesky little bugs, the Schaffer family now welcomes them. For four years, Travis Schaffer ran his family's pest control business, owned by his parents, Logan and Darlene Schaffer. He grew up in the business but said the whole family was ready to try something with a different pace and personality than ridding the world of bugs. They sold their business and went into campgrounds. "We were hooked on the idea of campgrounds," Travis said. "We have always been an adventurous family, the outdoors type. We feel like we have a connection to the customer base. It is a natural fit." Bugs are a welcome part of their campground ownership, and Travis's young son is especially excited about the critter possibilities. "He thinks it is the coolest thing, catching lizards and frogs," Travis said. Having his son around the campground in a family-oriented atmosphere was a huge draw for Travis. "In most businesses, if a kid is running around in a store front, it is considered unprofessional," he said. "People find that appealing here." His customer service philosophy involves getting into the mind of the camper and seeing things from their perspective. "I talk a lot to customers and find out what they are thinking. I take simple polls," Travis said. "I am trying to find out what the over trend is and what is the got-to-have services." He added that it is a top priority to give the camper the experience they desire and to impart his vision to the campground staff. Come meet Schaffer Family. |
