Jarrell Plantation Historic SiteNestled in the red clay hills of Georgia, this cotton plantation was owned by a single family for more than 140 years. It survived Gen. Shermans March to the Sea, typhoid fever, Emancipation, Reconstruction, the cotton boll weevil, the advent of steam power and a transition from farming to forestry. Macon Cherry Blossom FestivalEach March, Macon becomes a pink cotton-spun paradise of delight as over 275,000 Yoshino cherry trees bloom in all their glory. Hay House-Palace of the SouthBuilt in the middle 1800s, this 18,000 square foot Renaissance Revival mansion is now a National Historic Landmark. Georgia Music Hall of FameThe Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the state's official music museum, is located in Macon, the city where artists like Little Richard, James Brown, Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers Band launched their careers. Displaying 93 aircraft and hundreds of exhibits on a beautiful 43 acre site. The museum has grown into a significant exhibit, education and cultural center, drawing more than 700,000 visitors a year. Andersonville National Prisoner of War MuseumAndersonville, or Camp Sumter as it was officially known, was one of the largest of many Confederate military prisons established during the Civil War. Bass ProFor the sporting enthusiasts in your family, a must visit is the new eastern distribution center and 120,000 square foot shopping bonanza located about 14 miles south of the Kampground. Callaway Gardens is a nature lovers dream of beauty and tranquility. Visit their web page to learn all of the activities that are available. ShoppingIf shopping is your thing, then we are the place for you. In Macon, we have two large shopping areas-Eisenhower Crossing and Macon Mall. And about 20 miles north are the Tanger Outlet stores, plus you antique lovers will enjoy visiting the towns and villages in the area, to find that special treasure. Juliette, GeorgiaWhether you have seen the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" or not, you will certainly want to visit where it was filmed and eat some fried green tomatoes. Juliette is located about eight miles east of the Kampground and is a great place to visit. |
