Illinois' capital forms the heart of Abraham Lincoln country. Visitors can tour the 16th president's home, law offices and the Old State Capitol where he served in the legislature. View the new Lincoln Library and Museum. Pay your respects at Lincoln's Tomb. Visit the New Salem State Historic Site. Here, costumed guides re-create the 1830s town where the future president lived and worked. Southeast of the city, this KOA offers a quiet country setting with covered tent sites, level pull thrus, mini golf and nearby camper rentals. Head to Lake Springfield for swimming, boating and fishing. Nostalgia buffs: Don't leave without getting your kicks on Route 66, where you'll find a museum, shops, motorcycle races, antique car rallies and a drive-in diner. Free Wi-Fi too!
