Meet Your Hosts

The Dunagan Family

Ice cream socials at night and pancakes in the morning are what Greg and Machele Dunagan look forward to everyday at their KOA campground. They purchased the campground in 2002 when they left their lives in the corporate world for a more fulfilling lifestyle. Their KOA provides more than a relaxing atmosphere, "We make everyone that comes through the front door feel like family," said Machele, "We strive to have the friendliest campground there is." They escort guests to their campsites, and help anywhere assistance is needed. As a mid-sized park with 92 sites, the couple is able to spend time with their guests, getting to know as many people personally as possible. "We greet everyone who comes through the door. It is not like you are in a business-you are coming to see friends, and we are genuinely interested in our guests-not just their names," said Machele. They don't only want to learn your name, but your pet's name as well, so they can greet everyone.

The campground is an overnight KOA, and Machele said they see many of the same guests up to four times a year. All sites are pull-through, and people need not unhook their RVs unless they prefer it. According to Greg and Machele, there is no problem with satellite access in most sites, as they joke that each guest can "BYOT-bring your own tree". The terrain is mostly flat, with gentle rolling hills, and is a peaceful setting with quite a variety of songbirds and lilac bushes. It is an ideal space for walking and running. Activities vary and include a swimming pool, hot tub, pedal go-karts, playground, many historical sites, as well as the KART-Sanctioned WaKeeney Mini Speedway.

While visiting, don't forget to take advantage of the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. "A scenic byway runs past the campground. People can visit the antique store that is in walking distance, or take advantage of the various hunting and fishing opportunities in the area," said Machele.

Greg and Machele love to be around people, and consider it a job well done when everyone is happy and new relationships are formed.
