Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom is a combination theme park and water park located in the heart of Louisville. There is an interactive kids water play land and Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop to enjoy. Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby Museum

See the home of the hoof-pounding, heart-racing excitement of the Kentucky Derby and visit the largest equine museum in the world. While at Churchill Downs, check out a high-definition racing film on a 360 degree screen; participate in interactive events that allow visitors to "place bets" and act as a jockey in a race. Then take the guided tour including the finish line and winner’s circle. Museum hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Admission is charged. Located just three miles from downtown Louisville.

Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory

Home to the manufacturer of the most famous baseball bat in the world, the Slugger Museum offers tours every 20 minutes and awards a miniature souvenir bat to everyone who takes the tour. Visit the place that has supplied bats for the great American pastime for over 100 years - the home of the official bat of Major League Baseball. Factory tours run from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. Street Rod Nationals

Street rod enthusiasts from around the globe visit Louisville, Kentucky, and the Kentucky Exposition Center for the world’s biggest street rod party each year at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals.

Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor

The Patton Museum was created to preserve historical material relating to Cavalry and Armor. See a wide array of weapons and armor, including tanks, and an exhibit on George S. Patton, Jr. The museum is open year-round on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Holiday and weekends: May through September, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; October through April, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. Open to the public. Free admission. Self-guided tours available. Located at Fort Knox, 20 miles south of Louisville.

Jim Beam Distillery

FREE tours at the Jim Beam Distillery. The film presentation about the Beam Family and the early history of bourbon production is a great way to learn about a fascinating Kentucky tradition. A self-guided tour through the distilling process, an 1800's cooperage display and a walk around the grounds gives one the feeling of going back in time over 200 years. The Homestead, adjacent to the Outpost, offers a glimpse of the Beam Family history. Location: 149 Happy Hollow Road, Clermont, Kentucky. KY 245, Exit 112 of 1-65 at Clermont. Go Kart Country

Kart Country is fun for the whole family! Ride on the longest Go-Kart track in the world at over 1.5 miles long. All ages can ride. Enjoy miniature golf, batting cages, an arcade and much more. Louisville Zoo

Admire more than 1,300 different animals in their natural habitats. The zoo is especially proud of its award-winning gorilla forest, home to 11 western lowland gorillas. Other popular attractions include lions, vampire bats, a white alligator and hippos. Get discounted tickets at the front desk. Where else but the Louisville Zoo! Mammoth Cave National Park

Venture into the world's longest cave system... more than 365 explored miles. While you may enjoy the adventure of a self-guided tour, guided educational tours are available, too. Mammoth Cave National Park also offers boating, fishing, hiking and horseback riding.

Visit Historic Bardstown, where history lives every day of the year. A variety of attractions, special events and shopping abound here.

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest

This arboretum's motto is "Connecting people with nature." You can connect with nature as you and your family stroll the Canopy Treewalk, observe more than 250 species of birds, and enjoy the natural beauty of three lakes. Other activities at Bernheim Forest include geocaching, dog walking, bike riding, hiking and educational classes. In the old visitor's center, be sure to view the rotating art exhibit. Belle of Louisville

Enjoy a cruise on an authentic steam-driven paddle wheeler down the Ohio River; the Belle of Louisville is the oldest river steamboat still in operation. Three stories tall with a giant red paddlewheel, this ship will transport you back in time. Maker's Mark Distillery

Stop by the only distillery to be declared a National Historic Landmark. The Maker's Mark distillery tour includes stops at the old master distiller's house, which dates back to the 1840's; a toll house; a fire hall complete with an antique fire truck; and the "still" house - ironically the one stop bustling with the most activity. Shepherdsville Country Music Show

If you love country music, head to Shepherdsville this weekend for an amazing show! For 30 years, bands and singers from around the area have been entertaining folks on weekends. This family friendly show was founded by Mary and the late Philip “ Chester ” Reid and Mary still sells tickets at the door. Saturday nights throughout the year are headlined by 44 Country Bands and there are Bluegrass shows on Friday nights from October through April. Admission is charged.

Louisville Science Center and IMAX Theatre

Discover the fun at Louisville Science Center. Science is brought to life with exciting interactive exhibits; there is something here for everyone. Catch an IMAX show on the four-story screen and feel like you’re in the movie. Downtown Louisville Trolley

Ride an old-fashioned trolley through downtown Louisville and see the sights in style. Enjoy the Friday Gallery Hop on the first Friday of the month and visit galleries along Main and Market from 5-11 p.m. On the last Friday of the month, do the Frankfort Avenue Trolley Hop from 6-10:30 p.m. and see shops, galleries and restaurants. Rides are 25 cents, free for the Hops.

Return to a time when life was slower with a ride on a vintage 1940's dining car. Enjoy a delicious meal, gracious service and beautiful scenery during your two-hour trip.
