USS KIDD

The USS KIDD is a completely restored National Historic Landmark, a WWII Fletcher Class destroyer, one of the last ships of her era. She was awarded twelve battle stars in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean Conflict. You will see more than 50 of the inner spaces on one of the most detailed exhibits in the world. Today the USS KIDD is America's leading site for reunions of WWII destroyer crews. (225)-342-1942

Rural Life Museum and Windrush Gardens

Located on 450 acres include the working plantation of a complex of 20 buildings authentically furnished to reconstruct all the major activities of a typical 19th Century working plantation. In the 25 acre semiformal gardens with winding paths you will see the lovely crepe myrtles, azaleas, camellias and other plants that represent the flora used in 19th Century plantation gardens.

State Capitol (Old and New)

The Old State Capitol is a center for political and Governmental History. On the tour you will see gold leafing in the Rotunda, 1882 cast iron stair case and stained glass windows, original 1882 cathedral dome and imported marble floors. The New State Capitol is the tallest capital in the nation, Art Deco style building, completed in 1932. The Observation deck on 27th floor offers a breath taking view of the Mississippi river. This building was the site of Senator Huey Long's assassination in 1935.

National D Day Museum in New Orleans
