Port Hudson Civil War Battlefield

Port Hudson was the site of significant Civil War battles with 643 acres of winding paths through the area of the longest siege (48 days) in American history. It vividly recalls the valor of Confederate soldiers who defended this last stronghold of the Confederacy also, the courage of the first black soldiers and other regulars in the United States Army who participated in the assault. Tiki Tubing

Tiki Tubing has a 3 hour and a 5 1/2 hour float trip that starts with a short bus ride up the river where you will meet up with your tube on the beach entry point and you will float back to the Tiki Tubing beach. The Amite river is smooth and slow moving. The trip can take longer if you stop on sand bars to enjoy the beauty of the river and it's surroundings. The water is not too deep in most places and travels at a very nice leisurely comfortable relaxing pace. You can bring your own refreshments and have a family picnic right on the water. Louisiana Steam Train Old Hickory Railroad

ALL ABOARD! Take a ride on the Old Hickory Railroad, a working steam engine that celebrates the history of the railroads in the area. The Clinton Port Hudson Railroad, which included a spur to Jackson was incorporated in 1833 and played an important role in the early development of the area. In the early years the railroad was vital in hauling cotton and later hauled troops and supplies in the siege of Port Hudson. Today the Old Hickory Railroad runs each weekend from March through November. Riders are taken on a scenic 45 minute journey back in time and past several historic sites in Jackson, including the original campus of Centenary College.
