Mardi Gras

A two week long world famous festival starting two weeks prior to ash Wednesday and ending on Mardi Gras Day, the Tuesday before ash Wednesday with an all day statewide celebration. In New Orleans there will be extravagant parades every day for the two weeks. Almost every town and city, large and small, including Baton Rouge and Denham Springs will have its own Mardi Gras parade. You have never seen anything like it. Sugar Bowl

One of College Footballs great traditions takes place in New Orleans during the Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl. In its 75th year, the Sugar Bowl remains one of college athletics favorite events. The next Sugar Bowl will be held January 2, 2009 in the Louisiana Superdome.The Southeast Conference Champs serve as host for the game each year and crowds top 75,000 screaming fans. French Quarter Festival

Fifteen stages will rock the French Quarter April 13 - 15, 2007 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the three day weekend. Music lovers will find traditional and contemporary jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, Cajun and zydeco, New Orleans funk, classical, swing, rock, international and the many diverse sounds that are part of this city's rich cultural gumbo.

New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

In its 35 years, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival brings hundreds of big name musicians to one fabulous festival. Along the way, visitors find booths filled with the tastiest in Cajun and Creole foods and art from this state's finest craftsmen. Come to New Orleans the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May and experience all Jazz Fest has to offer. FestForAll - A Festival for All!

A community party celebrating the arts with fun, food and music! FestForAll takes place in downtown Baton Rouge the first weekend in May (May 3 & 4, 2008) and features live music (from blues to classical), performing arts, craft demonstrations, a variety of Louisiana cuisines, the Children's Village, and of course, an exceptional representation of fine arts and crafts. National Hot Air Balloon Championships

The Louisiana Ballooning Foundation presents The Advocate NABA National Hot Air Balloon Championships. The event includes hot air balloon competitions in the mornings, balloon liftoffs in the evenings and balloon glows at night. Admission is free and includes a giant children's play area and fireworks on Friday and Saturday night at The Pennington Center and BREC's Perkins Road Park. Celebration in the Oak - A Christmas Attraction

Celebration in the Oaks, New Orleans' premiere Christmas attraction, adds sparkle to the holidays. Here, revelers take a two mile driving tour through the hundred year old oak trees, all dressed up in two million sparkling lights. Walk through the 12 acre Botanical Gardens, amusement park and fairytale theme park. New light displays include Dinomation, a fun dinosaur exhibit that is bigger than life. Also look for a 32 foot animated paddlewheel boat called "Rolling on the River" which will float through the lagoons nightly. Nearby is another new animated exhibit of famous local musicians and instruments, "Crescent City Music". This is a night of holiday lights, music and food for the whole family. Be sure to walk to the back of the garden to see the new miniature train exhibit, with tiny buildings of the French Quarter throughout the route. Of course there are the annual favorites like the Cajun Santa in a pirogue pulled by alligators and the miles of lights twinkling from the live oak trees. Christmas Eve Bonfires on the Levee

Creoles and Cajuns of yesteryear lit bonfires on the levee during the holidays to light the way for Papa Noel (Santa Claus). Today's bonfire celebration continues this tradition with elaborate structures created on the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, sometimes taking months to build. The bonfires are lit on Christmas Eve to light the way for Papa Noel's visit and burn throughout the night, creating a festive atmosphere.
