Heritage Tours

Washington DC and area guided tours
Absolutely the best way to see the Capitol City is with Heritage Tours. Our tours leave directly from the campground. Tours run April through October. Sit back in our climate controlled buses an let us show you the best of DC.

Tour A - Washington DC
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday (departing at 9:00 am)

The Monumental Tour provides you with a truly memorable day in this stunning, world-class city. This leisurely paced tour delivers you to some of the most striking, and often thought-provoking Memorials in the world today. This trip encompasses two of the most iconic memorials in the nation; the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. Take pictures next to the giant granite figure or Abraham Lincoln while you quote the Gettysburg Address, and stroll around the tidal basin in front of the Jefferson Memorial which, in early spring, is covered in soft pink cherry blossoms. Then visit the more recent and modern FDR Memorial. This is an interactive memorial that leads you through the life and struggles of the unprecedented four presidential terms of Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Then our tour will take you to some of the city's most meaningful, and often sobering war memorials; the Vietnam War Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the unique, new World War II Memorial. Take your time and explore all that these sites have to teach and offer. There will be a lunch stop at the bustling, historic Union Station where you will have many delicious and varied choices of places to eat.

Tour B - Washington DC
Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday (departing at 9:00 am)

Hop aboard and see the essential sites of the United States' Government Seat. This day tour of DC takes in the magnificent and architecturally grand houses of the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress. Incredible sculptures, marble, and columns abound at these two world famous and important structures! Next, there comes a stop that takes a step back in time; the site of President Lincoln's assassination. Visit and take the brief guided tour of Ford's Theatre and then walk across the street to the Peterson House, where Lincoln was carried after the shooting and eventually died. And no visit to this great city is complete without stops at the exciting root of it all; the Washington Monument, the White House, and the United States Capitol. Our trip affords plenty of time at each for pictures, questioning the ever-present picketers in front of the White House, and perhaps even a trip to the top of the Washington Monument. This tour also stops at Union Station for some lunch and great souvenir and gift shopping.

Tour C - Washington DC and Virginia
Sunday (departing at 9:00 am)

This wonderfully paced day gives you plenty of needed time at two of the area's outdoor experiences. Don't miss out on a chance to see the famous Changing of the Guard at John F. Kennedy's gravesite where the Eternal Flame presides. Explore the gravestones of one the world's most famous cemeteries. Then you'll be escorted off to the vibrant seaport area of Old Town Alexandria where an infinite number of restaurants and shops wait for you. After a great bite to eat, meander down the path along the Potomac River and relax in the shade of a tree, and watch the residents of Washington busy at work across the water. Then after you've shopped and rested, comes a very important, educational, and beautiful visit to Mount Vernon. Here at George Washington's grand estate, there are many options for historic tours such as the tour of the house itself, an important and memorable guided tour of the slave quarters, or an agricultural tour of Washington's innovative and impressive crop and farm management systems. You will need to relax in one of the many rocking chairs on the enormous great porch of the mansion facing the Potomac before you get back on the bus to return to the camp! Make sure to wear your comfortable walking shoes for this active day but, don't worry, our guides will give you plenty of time to take your time!

Tour D - Washington DC Evening Tour
Tuesday - June, July & August (departing at 4:30pm)

Get ready to salute at the Armed Forces tour that takes in the important Navy Memorial, Marine Memorial, and the Policemen's Memorial. These are definitely a must for anyone who has ever served or known anyone in the service as they pay respect the fallen heroes of yesterday and today and thank the brave presently serving this country and its city streets. Then for a one-of-a-kind experience that words truly cannot describe, our bus takes you to the Marine Corps Sunset Parade at the Iwo Jima Memorial featuring the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps with Silent Drill Platoon. Watch as these soldiers mesmerize with marching, guns, and drums. A MUST SEE!
