Before they purchased the Fayetteville / Wade KOA Kampground, Steve was the Marina Operations Director for The Marina at Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Sara was a Marketing manager for the marine and modular construction industries. "The campground business is a lot like the marine industry - only the RVs don't run aground!" jokes Steve. Steve and Sara, along with Allen Jewell, a retired lawyer and family member from Anchorage, Alaska, have very specific goals for meeting campers' expectations: "We want our customers to come into a clean campground where sites are accessible, spacious, and comfortable. Easy in; easy out," says Sara. "We want them to be able to tell their friends that our campground is very clean; that the sites are long, wide, and level; and that the employees are warm, friendly and helpful. Steve adds, "After a long day of driving, it's a treat to enjoy the pool, the dog park and walking trails, or relax in one of our comfy new lodges with a 19" flat screen TV." Maybe it's their marina background, or maybe it's just their caring nature, but the Jewells have big hearts for stowaways: "We rescued and raised two yellow striped kittens from the underside of an RV that had traveled all the way up from Florida to our North Carolina campground. From the time they were two to three days old, we hand fed them until they were eating solid food. Then, when they reached 8 weeks, one of our RVers adopted them," says Sara.
