New Bern KOAMeet Your Hosts Larry and Pat Holtzclaw have been avid campers all of their lives and are dedicated to helping people enjoy the KOA experience. The New Bern campground is the third KOA they have managed, along with still managing the Smithfield KOA. Joel Tomaselli is the owner of the New Bern KOA, as well as Smithfield and Wilmington N.C. KOA campgrounds. The Holtzclaw's first worked for Tomaselli at the Wilmington KOA, earning the KOA President's Award during the 2 years they managed the campground and have managed Smithfield for two years earning the President's Award both years and the Founder's Award for 2008. Larry said they have enjoyed a fine working relationship, and chose to move on to the new challenges of the New Bern KOA earning the President's Award and Founder's Award for 2007 and 2008. Their focus is to continue to make improvements, providing a well-equipped and beautiful campground with special attention to the campers. The couple really enjoys meeting the guests who stay at their campground. "We get a lot of self-satisfaction and enjoyment out of helping people", Larry added. Larry spent 31 years as a firefighter with the Charlotte, NC Fire Department. Pat worked as a purchasing agent and also raised their two sons and a daughter and the couple enjoys five grandchildren. Together they welcome both new and returning guests to the campground and are eager to assist and make their campers welcome. For fun the couple loves to camp and ride their Harley Trike.
