Meet Your Hosts It was the 1980s and Wayne and Sue Bates were tent camping with their two young children across the Black Hills of South Dakota and into Yellowstone National Park. Someone-and this is still the subject of an ongoing family debate-forgot to pack Wayne's heavy coat. "Not only were we fighting the cold," Sue recalls, "but the mosquitoes were about as big as birds! So we were thrilled to discover a kamping kabin at West Yellowstone where we could stay for a few days." Married for 35 years, Wayne and Sue have been KOA fans ever since. In fact, they decided years ago that someday they would own and operate their very own kampground. When Wayne retired from the U.S. Postal Service and Sue retired from her position as an insurance underwriter, the Bates' made their dream a reality. In July of 2008, they purchased the Grand Island, Nebraska KOA. As parents and grandparents, they want to make sure that their kampground is a family-friendly place, well-suited for making lifetime memories. "We are creating an attractive, fun-filled kampground with friendly owners and staff devoted to meeting the needs of our customers," says Sue, who enjoys reading and swimming in her free time. Wayne, an avid outdoorsman and woodworker, agrees. "We want our guests to have the ultimate 'happy camper' experience," he says. "It's our goal to have them tell others how friendly we are and what a great time they have when they're here." Come meet the Bates Family. |
