Local Area Attractions

Annual Spring Bird Migration

Annual Spring Bird Migration (late February to approximately April 10 or so) -- Many birds migrate through our area, it is considered the "central flyway zone," and tens of thousands of Sandhill Cranes migrate through, also (the Sandhill Cranes are the biggest attraction for birdwatchers from all over the world). Other birds migrating through include 14 to 16 million ducks and geese, endangered whooping cranes, prairie chickens, bald eagles, and more. There is a 250 acre Crane Meadows Nature Center (visitor center) and Interpretive Facility just outside of Grand Island. Also, thousands of these birds can be seen in the fields surrounding our campground during the spring migration time.
