Ely KOAMeet Your Hosts![]() He was retired, a little bored, and not sure what he got himself into, but KOA campground owner, Chuck Christensen, said he is sure glad he found his Ely KOA. Before he was a campground owner, Chuck owned a manufacturing business and his wife, Patty's, job was "to take the best possible care of her husband," Chuck joked. After retiring, Chuck and Patty found themselves staying in a campground in Sedona, Ariz., and they became friends with the owners. One day the campground managers up and left, and the owners asked the Christensens to watch the campground for a few days. Six months later the Christensens were still watching the campground and soon became partial owners. Ten years later Chuck sold the campground, and in 1998 he bought the KOA in Ely, Nev. "I ran all over the country looking for a campground and found this KOA," he said. Chuck and Patty are in love with the area and the people in Ely. However, the crowning glory of the KOA, he said, "is that it is a 398 mile round trip to Wal-Mart." Chuck said the area prides itself on being a small community. "This is the crossroads to many cities and is a very small, lovely community with lots of community volunteers. It is a marvelous place to live, and we have made a lot of really great friends here," Chuck said. The Christensens strive to deliver superior customer service. "I hate to see a business spend millions of dollars for advertising to get me to walk in the door and then to be serviced with a scowl, take my money and push me back out the door," Chuck said. "We don't do that in Ely. We like our customers." Chuck said his staff has to have a serious sense of humor to work there. "We don't hire people who take themselves too seriously," he said. Come meet The Christensen Family. |
