Historic Zoar Village

Historic Zoar Village was founded in 1817 as a refuge from religious persecution by German immigrants. In 1819, they formed a communal society, where all shred equally. After digging 7 miles of the Ohio & Erie Canal, the group became prosperous and farmed over 5,500 acres of land and started weaving and iron industries. Today many buildings remain, some private, some as shop, and eleven as museums administered by the Ohio Historical Society. June-August 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Closed Monday.
