Checotah / Lake Eufaula West KOAMeet Your Hosts![]() "After operating in so many stressful businesses, I wanted my last business experience to be in a campground where the environment is warm and hospitable," says Wade Phillips, owner of the Checotah KOA in OK. Before purchasing his KOA in 2002, Wade was a consultant in California and before that he was a vice-president of operations in the aerospace industry. He had camped for over ten years and felt it would be a good fit. Wade feels the best part of his KOA is the aesthetics and the management. When he first purchased his campground, he built nine new buildings, two new roads, and two nature trails. He said the landscaping is pleasing to the eye and the buildings are well managed. As if that were not enough, Wade installed a sports field, playground, 250 seat theater, a catch and release lake with a fountain, a bird sanctuary, and a farm. Visitors can roam the 38 acres of land where the campground is located, and weddings are often held in the nearby meadow. "The look of the place is the customer's first impression," Wade said. Customer service is important to Wade and his staff. He says he enjoys the people he deals with, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Employees are always encouraged to meet the customer with a smile and ask if there is anything they can do for them. "When people are stressed out from traveling, they come here and see a smile," he said. "After they have set up camp and relaxed, they remember the smile and feel more comfortable." In his spare time, Wade is also a volunteer fireman and he loves riding on his Harley motorcycle. He is interested in classic cars and recently purchased a T-Bird. Come meet The Phillips Family. |
