Sault Ste. Marie KOALocal Area EventsMillion dollar shoot outA special event where you may win a million dollars with a few strokes of the club. Roberta Bondar park tent pavilionThis is a 14,500 square feet, open air tent pavilion. The architectural fabric is a canvas for Canada’s largest public artwork and the world’s largest backlit mural. The ten scenes that run 106 meters (350 feet ) around the tent canopy capture the many landscapes and cultures that form the truly Canadian experience that is Sault Ste Marie. During the summer the Pavilion hosts concerts featuring local orchestras, high school bands, church choirs, marching bands and more. Canada Day celebrationsHistorical displays, music, dance, theatre, children’s rides, food, drink and colorful fireworks display. July 1. Great Canadian tugboat racesFeaturing a pancake breakfast aboard the tugs, parade of tugs and the tugboat race. International bridge walkSault Ste Marie, Michigan and Ontario celebrate their friendship with a 2KM walk across the International Bridge. Rotary community dayIncludes a parade, games of chance, food booths, street dance and much more in support of children with physical disabilities. Can/Am king salmon tournamentTest your fishing expertise! Cash prizes for the top 15 heaviest Chinook Salmon as well as the overall heaviest fish caught daily and a mystery weight prize category. CornfestThis annual extravaganza is held on nearby St. Joseph’s Island just a 30 minute drive East of the Sault. This is a great celebration of the local corn harvest with music concerts featuring big name country bands, fireworks, children’s events, fresh corn on the cob, homemade pie and much more. Third weekend in August. Annual house tourThe Art Gallery of Algoma presents a tour of some of the city’s most beautiful homes. Held in September. Fall color train tourClimb aboard the famous Agawa Canyon Tour Train for a one day rail excursion 114 miles into the spectacular northern Ontario forest of color. Departs daily from the Sault.
