Stunning mountain views frame the Fillmore KOA where Ann and Dick Flones enjoy working as a team. They purchased their KOA in 1994, and relocated from the Kansas City area. They love the outdoors and enjoy the opportunity to meet people.

The couple likes to treat campers as their special guests, helping them feel welcome and at home. Dick was a telephone engineer for Sprint Communications, and said he didn't want to work for another corporation. Since they've always enjoyed camping, they made the transition to campground ownership and haven't looked back.

They work to make changes to accommodate the changing needs of campers, Dick said, and he does most of the improvements himself. The Pahvant Mountain Range rises just four miles to the East, to an elevation of more than 11,000 feet, and open meadows stretch West. They can see the town of Fillmore from the campground, but since it's outside of town, it offers more freedom. The campground has drawn a mix of Snowbirds, as well as a growing clientele who enjoy the nearby ATV trails on the weekends, he said.

Ann taught international cooking classes before they moved West. She has enjoyed a hobby in stained glass over the years, and together they create many designs over the winter months, with Dick helping in the cutting of the glass in more recent years. Campers look forward to seeing their new creations, he said, which they sell in spring and summer. He's also a puzzle person, he said. Ann previously served on the Tourism Committee for the local Chamber, and Dick has now joined the efforts to promote tourism in the area.

"It's a nice lifestyle," he said of their years as KOA owners. "We enjoy the type of people who camp. Most are real happy and friendly."
