Saturday nite live skits, ice cream socials, tie dye, fingerpainting, sidewalk chalk, candy bar bingo, Karaoke, chapel service, ultimate frisbee, pool games, S'more parties, horseshoe tournaments, scavenger hunts and more! GolfingThere is golfing for every level. You can choose from Colonial Williamsburg, Kingsmill, Fords Colony, The Colonial Golf Course, Royal New Kent, Stonehouse, Williamsburg National Golf Club and Newport News/Deer Run Golf Course. Most of these are challenging, 18 hole golf courses. FishingWilliamsburg area has a diverse menu of fishing opportunities. Local reservoirs are home to large mouth bass, chain pickerel, land locked striped bass, crappie, channel catfish, and a variety of pan fish. The Chickohominy River is a hot spot for large mouth bass fishing with many tournaments held there each year. Salt water fishing is available at piers from Yorktown to Virginia Beach. Ocean species are available by charter boat wreck fishing and Gulf Stream trips for Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Tuna, Dolphin and Shark are available out of Virginia Beach. HikingSeveral local municipal and state parks have hiking trails, fitness trails and nature trails. They include Waller Mill Park, Newport News Park, and York River State Park. Sporting claysOld Forge Outdoors located near Williamsburg at Providence Forge has two championship sporting clay courses and a five stand complex. Instructors available to work with beginners and intermediate shooters. BoatingThe Williamsburg area offers many boating opportunities for water enthusiasts. For quiet row boating and canoeing several local reservoirs offer rental boats. For power boating and water skiing the James River, York River and Chickahominy River are just a short drive away. All three rivers lead into the Chesapeake Bay. Bird watchingBirders will find a multitude of species in this area. Water fowl and shore birds can be found in abundance at York River State Park, Hog Island Wildlife Refuge, Back Bay Wildlife Management Area and Chickohominy Wildlife Management Area. The Williamsburg area is home to Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, Cedar Wax Wings, Cardinals, Pileated Wood Peckers, Wild Turkeys, Bob Whites, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Blue Herons, Bitterns, Wood Ducks, Purple Martins and a variety of owls to name a few. ShoppingThere is shopping for every personality. Shop all of these or choose your preference: Williamsburg Pottery Factory, Prime Outlets Center, Williamsburg Outlet Mall, The Doll Factory, Williamsburg Soap and Candle Factory, Shops at Kingsmill, Merchants Square and The Williamsburg Winery. BikingMountain biking trails are available at York River State Park and Waller Mill City Park. Distance biking is available at many locations nearby. Williamsburg’s mild terrain is suitable for family biking trips. Biking is popular on the Colonial Parkway, a 24 mile long National Historical Park between Jamestown and Yorktown. |
