Ellensburg KOAMeet Your Hosts Jerry Leath, and his parents Mac and Sara, are the owners of the Ellensburg, Wash. KOA, which has been a KOA Kampground since the 1970s. They are fun-loving, hard-working owners who have 'all the right stuff' to help make their campers' visits the best they can be. "It's hard to say what I'm most proud of: the campground, our maintenance crew or our employees," says Jerry. "We work to take care of any problems as soon as possible, and be friendly and courteous while we're at it. We want our campers to tell their friends and family that this is a nice clean place to camp, and that they had a great time while they were here!" Jerry and Mac have all the skills necessary to keep a campground in good working order. Before becoming a campground owner, Jerry did roofing, was a HVAC installer, bartender, plumber, and school janitor. Mac also did roofing and was a milkman. Like many other campground owners, Sara comes from a background in the hospitality industry, as a restaurant and bar owner, bartender and waitress. "We want to get our customers registered and in their sites in a fast, orderly manner," says Jerry. The Leaths understand that their campers want to get to the fun part of their trip, as they enjoy getting on the road themselves. Jerry enjoys Harley riding, rafting, fishing and drag racing, while Mac and Sara spend time traveling and enjoying NASCAR. Jerry tells a humorous story about the benefits of the bright KOA yellow color. "One day, the birds were flying around and scaring a camper who didn't want to leave his RV. I found that the bright KOA yellow shirt I wear scared the birds away so the camper could enjoy his stay. Now I say, "Yellow attracts people, but scares the birds!" Come meet The Leath Family. |
