This day commemorates the arrival in West Yellowstone of the first Union Pacific passenger train filled with Yellowstone bound tourists in 1908.

Janet Clarkson Memorial Triathlon

Janet Clarkson was an avid participant in many racing events. Janet passed away at age 37 from Ewing's Sarcoma, a bone cancer. This annual event in honor of Janet and for the benefit of the West Yellowstone School's Scholarship Fund and the American Cancer Society, is held in and around Janet's summer-time home, the Madison Arm Resort on Hebgen Lake. A .64 mile swim is followed by a 7.3 mile bicycle ride and concludes with a 5.2 mile run. An awards dinner and dance follow the competition.

Big Sky Rodeo in Big Sky, Montana.

Celebrate the 4th of July with us at the Big Sky Rodeo. It is exciting and athletically explosive. Located in our indoor rodeo, cowboys come from all over and compete in all of your favorite events: bull riding, team roping, barrel racing, bronc riding and much more. There will even be a calf scramble for the children to participate in. Concessions will be available. Produced by Lillian Rodeo Company. Montana tradition at one of Montana's most traditional guest ranches.

Burnt Hole Mountain Man Rendezvous

Step back in history. From Tepees to Trader's Row, this re-enactment of a pre-1840 era encampment brings bygone times to life. Black Powder and tomahawk throwing competitions vie for attention with blacksmiths and toolmakers.

Pineneedle Stampede-Foot Race

Run or walk! This relaxed race, a celebration of summer, has 6 and 10k events for adults and a kids' race, too; and, has been named one of the top thirteen most scenic race courses in the country. The traffic-free route winds its way into the National Forest along the Rendezvous Trail System. T-shirts, fruit and thirst quenchers are all included.
