Campground Reviews

I did not get the spot I paid extra for, and since I require wifi for my job when I am out of town. I actually lost pay. I also was not pleased that 90% of the amenities that attracted me to this KOA, including the main laundry, were closed, yet the price was not reduced. I am sure this is a great place in the summer but certainly not worth a $100 a night after Labor Day.

Our stay was perfect from start to finish and the amenities offered at Mt Rushmore KOA Resort at Palmer Gulch are wonderful. We will definitely stay at this location again in the near future!

Disappointed in lack of amenities for tent campers. Bathrooms are too far to walk to. Very plentiful bathrooms for RV guests

It was a quiet place to stay. Easy and convenient to most of the local sights.

Staff was very helpful and pleasant. The open comfort stations were a little far from our campsite. Wish the closest one had not been shut down for the season.

Beautiful park! Very friendly accommodating staff.

Very Nice campground - everyone friendly and pretty helpful. Not sure why their little pizza ice cream place closed before season was done. Should have stayed open - campground was full. Great location.

Nice park, very well maintained. Definitely in the list of places to stay when visiting Mt Rushmore!

I stay at KOA’s all the time and I just wanted to point out that the Mount Rushmore KOA Resort is very nice. Great views and lots of room to roam. Two things I didn’t like: First the WiFi for a place of this magnitude is terrible. Second, there are shops at this location which were all closed for the season-Why? For the costs to stay here these concerns should be addressed. Thank you.

With the exception of the internet which does not meet today's requirements, everything was perfect

I was locked in the patio area bathrooms. A lot was closed already for the season. So it was not up to my expectations.

Nice park. Friendly staff. Short drive to Mt Rushmore

Very nice campground, large spaces would definitely return. My only complaint would be they need to do much better at reducing the speed that residents drive through the campground. It is posted, but unfortunately, people drive far too fast. But this is certainly not a deal breaker for us. We would definitely return very close to everything.

We enjoyed our stay!! This place is huge and has so many activities. It was a perfect base camp for all the area attractions. Mt. Rushmore was a big hit and the lightning ceremony in the evening is a must see.

We had a delightful stay. Many things had ended after Labor Day, but they still provided the "Polkapalooza" which was a lot of fun! The location of the park was very convenient to see Custer, Hill City, Grand Rapids, and the local attractions. Park was nice and clean and provided a lot of amenities.

My site was too small for my trailer, the electrical pedestal was in the wrong location, luckily I had an extension cord to reach. We are packed in like sardines and even though the restrooms are close we have to walk a long ways to get to them because we are told not to cut through a campsite you need to make pathways for easier access. Phones are not answered, and texts are not answered

we were unfortunately disappointed. First of all, we paid the premium price for a nice pull through patio site, and I must say the amendments were a bit rundown. Secondly, we are three spots in from the entrance gate and there’s some major earth work going on large equipment, breaking up boulders. It was a bit annoying. Lastly, the large door was nice. However, the run of smaller stores were clo

Wonderful staff, clean level sites, great deal of amenities especially if you are in season. Extremely clean facilities and safety patrols 24/7. Only negative was poor and spotty WiFi and calls kept dropping. Enjoy.

Very clean and well thought out RV park in one of the most beautiful settings ever!

You should change trash pick up to 10 AM from 9:00 AM. Travelers are busy tearing down site and trash is the last thing to do.

Very nice park, we had an issue initially, which was handled once we were able to pry the front desk guy away from his cell phone.

We only stayed overnight at The Mount Rushmore KOA Resort as part of a longer road trip, but what a great experience it would be to plan an extended stay! The staff was personable and supportive, the sites were well maintained and comfortable, and the amenities were more than plentiful. We did manage to visit the restaurant, and both the food and service were terrific. Highly recommend this KOA!

I was there as part of a group that was supposed to receive group discounts. We did not. I spoke several times to people at registation and nobody could figure out what needed to be done. Seems like nobody is in charge or can make a decision. So I just gave up. Everything else was fine. I would like to say though that it is very hard to get ahold of anybody by phone at the office prior to going t

It’s a beautiful place, maybe we were too close to the sewer pond. The flies and yellow jackets were nonstop at the RV site getting inside.

German Club rented a spot to park the bus we were transported in to go to the Polkapalooza. It was an ideal spot close to the polka tent. The bus left at 10 PM so no overnight stay.

Wonderful park. Was disappointed the pool wasn't open. When I booked, it said the site was close to the pool, it was, but pool was closed! The pool by the lodge was open, but quite a walk from our site. We will be back.

Stayed here for 2 nights, May 11th and 12th. Campground was super nice. We did get an upgraded site $66.00 a night. It had everything FHU, gas grill, fire pit and patio set. Can also rent a car which are at the campground so you don't have to unhook your rig to explore the area. Gulf cart rentals and ATV rentals, they have everything, lots to do. We were there during off season (before memorial weekend) so not everything was open yet. Would have been perfect location for our Mount Rushmore visit but due to road work on Highway 244 between MR and the campground we had to go the long way around. Doesn't look like the work will be done very soon. Restrooms were ok, nothing exciting, typical campground restroom and showers. If we travel this way again we would for sure stay here again.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.
