Campground Reviews

We loved our stay here for our very first time at Mount Rushmore! The cabin was so nice & peaceful. The staff was helpful when we had questions & they were always willing to help, with smiles on their faces. I would definitely recommend this KOA to family & friends. We have already told our neighbor about this location for their future visit. :)

We had our daughters wedding there and the team went over and above to help us and make sure the day went off without any issues. Several of the guests stayed there as well and I heard nothing but great things about it!

Our stay went very well. We enjoy chatting with Scott in the restaurant. The site escort was very helpful ensuring that we had a satisfactory site. The front desk clerk was very persinable and helpful checking us in.

The best KOA we've ever stayed at

First, I called several months ago and booked via telephone. I asked if my Pitbull would be accepted and the response was, we have no breed restrictions. When I arrived I saw that Pitbulls were not allowed. I lied and said he was a different breed. They put us in a cramped site in a construction zone. My neighbors clean out was basically at my door. We complained about barking dogs nothing done.

Construction everywhere -Seasonal site - most everything was closed for the season or being constructed. KOA phone rep, DID NOT mention the above. KOA rep very polite & helpful, but when we arrived, we were a bit disappointed much of the above mentioned, mostly a seasonal site; the construction was a non-issue. If we were to return we might pick a different camp ground.

A little noisy with all the construction going on but that's to be expected thank you

We stayed 7 days and used the campground as a base camp for day trips. We had a pull through site next to comfort station 3. We were disappointed at the limited number of washing machines. Many of the amenities were closed for the season which we understood but thought the rate should have been reduced to reflect the reduced amenities. We must compliment the staff for their friendliness.

Our site had mud under the picnic table rendering it unusable. It was repaired our last night. We understand mishaps happen, but how the water line break was handled was unacceptable. The only communication came after the repair. My water filter was saturated in silt and I requested a replacement. I was told I could purchase one. I wasn't even offered a discount.

First time in the area. Beautiful park, newly paved main roads in the park. Lots to do in the park let alone in the area. Friendly staff. Only regret is we couldn’t stay longer. We will have to come back!

Loved the location, even with the necessary highway construction nearby to improve the roads! the bathrooms were very good but maybe too forceful (was pressure was so high it almost hurt); The loved so much we came back for a 2nd night. Tried out the restaurant and had a nice meal with good service.

The only complaint is all of the animal feces everywhere. Maybe the grass areas could be raked clean before the resort opens? Other than this, this resort is lovely.

When we arrived it was raining heavily. We were put in a site that had a lot of flooding & was very narrow & short for our rig & tow car & there were many more sites available. We were notified of the bridge being worked on after we booked and a detour of how to access but the signs on the road were very deceiving. Had we known, we probably would have checked other parks. Internet non existent.

We had an electrical problem with the box. It was after hours when we noticed our motorhome was shocking us. My husband was afraid there was something wrong with our motorhome which frightened us. He checked the box and apparently there was a problem with the ground. We spent an hour trying to call or find someone. Had to go to the lodge and they moved us. It was a hassle. Laundry mat issues too.

Enjoyed. Clean and well maintained except the washer/dryers being down. Wish the amenities were open but we were early in the season.

When the construction is done it will be top notch.

We stayed at the camp in early May and really enjoyed our stay. Only knocking it down a star due to most of the activities being closed and the entrance being a bit difficult due to some construction. Beautiful location, clean facilities, and friendly employees!

The cabin was very nice and clean when we came. The patio and bonfire area were very spacious. We loved the playgrounds for the kids also!

We arrived to major construction going on and then paving on campground made getting around difficult! Then we talked to staff about what was open the lady said nothing until Memorial Day. Come back the next night after exploring area and the taproom was open! Staff in the building is clueless and any questions I asked the shrugged shoulders. Staff on the grounds are amazing TOM was amazing!!!

beautiful setting. friendly staff

Would have rated 5 stars but because of all the re-paving of roads during our stay only 4. This a great park!

We were notified of bridge closure right before check in and not notified that there was major paving going on inside of campground at all. Both of those alone would have caused us to camp elsewhere. There is a 48 hr cancel policy. We got all the way to closed bridge bf the bridge close text cam. The front desk said we should have checked the website, which says nada about smelling paving in park

Construction was happening and could be heard at site even on Saturday. Staff did a great job of working around it. They drove you to your site to make it easier to find.

We stayed 5 days in order to take in all of the sights. Employees were friendly and helpful. Park was very clean and scenery was extraordinary. Would definitely recommend this park! Especially for couples with children-lots for them to do.

This would be a great place once everything opens up and the bridge out front is fixed. It is a long way around to Mt Rushmore from there because of the bridge outage. 2 washing machines did not work - only went through half the cycle. And the dryers were not hot enough and took a long time to dry anything

Great place just wish everything was open restaurant for example

When I hooked up the filter to the spigot at site, turned on to fill my tank & nothing was flowing. I shut off the spigot, unscrewed the filter & it was blocked with a dark brown oily muck! Guy next to me had the same issue! I called & they sent a guy out & ran the water to clear it. They gave us new filters. U need to fix this issue permanently! Had to drain, disinfect tank & line twice!

Much construction going on and would have liked to have known the bridge was out.

Great location and great view. The camp ground had just opened and did not have a chance to experience any of the amenities. We would come back again.

Very nice upgraded campground. Just opened for the season when we got there so many amenities were not available yet. Lots for families once fully opened for the season. Beautiful setting also.

We had a great stay in the deluxe cabin. It was perfect for our family and we will definitely be back.

Stayed here for 2 nights, May 11th and 12th. Campground was super nice. We did get an upgraded site $66.00 a night. It had everything FHU, gas grill, fire pit and patio set. Can also rent a car which are at the campground so you don't have to unhook your rig to explore the area. Gulf cart rentals and ATV rentals, they have everything, lots to do. We were there during off season (before memorial weekend) so not everything was open yet. Would have been perfect location for our Mount Rushmore visit but due to road work on Highway 244 between MR and the campground we had to go the long way around. Doesn't look like the work will be done very soon. Restrooms were ok, nothing exciting, typical campground restroom and showers. If we travel this way again we would for sure stay here again.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.
