Truman Library and Museum

Enjoy the exhibits, A/V shows and memorabilia on Harry S. Truman’s presidency and private life. Favorite exhibits include those of the Second World War, United Nations, Marshall Plan and Truman’s famous 1948 “Whistlestop” campaign. Then visit the grave sites of Harry and Bess Truman in the Library’s courtyard.

Harry S. Truman Farm Home

Stands 20 miles south of Independence. Mr. Truman operated the family farm from 1906-1917. The home is now part of the Harry S. Truman National Historic Site. Guided tours provided.

Historical Mormon Sites

RLDS Independence Temple of Peace

Stands as an architectural symbol of God’s involvement with humankind through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Highlighting the building is a 1,600-seat sanctuary and a 102-rank, 5,685 pipe organ built by Casavant Freres Limitee in Quebec, Canada. Also houses two visitor theaters, a lecture hall, classrooms, museum, bookstore, library, chapel with adjacent meditation garden and administrative offices. Open to the public for guided tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
